Windsor community upgrades funded 2023-24

I am proud to announce I have secured funding in the 2023-24 Budget to provide safer access to local schools, improve our parks, and support our community.

WINDSOR DOG PARK UPDATE

Works to put a dog park in north east Windsor Park will commence within weeks. I would like to thank the community for their patience as we worked through a number of local issues. The work was on hold after the flood and the following nation-wide cyclone fencing shortages. Further investigation of the site showed construction material unacceptably close to the surface, which requires remediation, these works will be stage one of the project. The remediation works will be significant and take some time.

The current playground area was also reviewed and there were no issues identified, and the community can safely use the park while other areas of the park are remediated. Upcoming works will ensure any future community upgrades to the park can be completed safely. Construction of the dog park is expected to be completed early to mid-2024.

WINDSOR COMMUNITY CENTRE WORKS

Construction works to deliver the new Windsor Community Centre are taking longer than expected, with the site at 57 Grafton Street having similar subsurface issues as the dog park. This has meant that crews have had to hand remove concrete construction waste. This has increased the anticipated construction timeframes. When Council commenced works this year, large amounts of historical construction waste were discovered. Council is also working to retain and protect all healthy, existing trees. Weather and site conditions permitting, construction is scheduled for completion in 2024.

Upgrading our community facilities is part of my ongoing commitment to improving our suburbs and making Enoggera Ward an even better place to live
