The Enoggera Bowls Club community have welcomed a grant from Brisbane City Council which will see additional solar panels installed at the club to cut down on energy costs.
The club received $40,000 as part of the 2014-15 Community Sport Clubs Grants program which was designed to make facility upgrades more affordable for local community groups.
Councillor Andrew Wines said the grant would assist the longevity of the club to ensure it remains financially viable well into the future.
“Recurrent bills are what kill these clubs and Council and I are trying our best to help reduce them,” he said.
Club President Greg Flynn agreed the grant would allow the club to continue to offer a first class facility for members and guests.
“[It will] allow the club to reinvest any savings into the further development of the club for the enjoyment of its members, their guests and the users of the club’s facilities,” he said.
